Cumulative GPA Formula (With Example)
Cumulative GPA is based on total grade points divided by total credits:
Formula:Cumulative GPA = (Σ(Grade Points × Credits)) ÷ (Σ Credits)
Example:
Semester 1: 3 credits at 3.7 GPA = 11.1 points
Semester 2: 4 credits at 3.0 GPA = 12.0 points
Total credits = 7, Total points = 23.1
Cumulative GPA = 23.1 ÷ 7 = 3.30
If you use a different GPA scale (like 5.0), the calculator adjusts the mapping automatically using the selected scale.
