Class Rank And Percentile Formula

This tool uses a simple, transparent method:

  • Best-case rank = 1 + students above you
  • Worst-case rank = students above you + students tied with you
  • Estimated rank ≈ average of best and worst case
  • Percentile = (N − rank + 1) / N × 100

Example

If your class size is 120, students above you are 5, and students tied with you are 3:

  • Best-case rank = 5 + 1 = 6
  • Worst-case rank = 5 + 3 = 8
  • Estimated rank ≈ (6 + 8) / 2 = 7
  • Percentile ≈ (120 − 7 + 1) / 120 × 100 = 95% (approx.)
