Weighted GPA Calculator
Weighted GPA Calculator to calculate both weighted GPA and unweighted GPA using course credits (units), grade type (letter/percent / GPA), and course level (Regular, Honors, AP/IB). It also works as a simple weighted-to-unweighted GPA calculator because you can Compare unweighted and weighted GPA using credits and course levels.

How to Calculate Weighted GPA (Formula + Example)
Weighted GPA formula
A common approach to calculate weighted GPA is:
Weighted GPA = (Σ( (Base GPA + Weight Boost) × Credits )) ÷ (Σ Credits)
Example (Honors + AP/IB)
Suppose your school uses a 4.0 scale and boosts: Honors +0.5, AP/IB +1.0 (capped at the GPA scale).
- Honors Math: A (4.0) + 0.5 boost = 4.5 × 4 credits = 18.0
- AP Physics: B+ (3.3) + 1.0 boost = 4.3 × 4 credits = 17.2
- English (Regular): A- (3.7) + 0.0 boost = 3.7 × 3 credits = 11.1
Total quality points = 18.0 + 17.2 + 11.1 = 46.3
Total credits = 4 + 4 + 3 = 11
Weighted GPA = 46.3 ÷ 11 = 4.21 (example)
For comparison, your unweighted GPA would use base GPA only (without boosts), which is why many students use this page like a quick gpa weighted calculator and comparison checker.
